Ali was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He is named after his father, Cassius Markles Clay Sr., who was named after Cassius Clay, an anti-slavery politician.

Ali joined the Nation of Islam in 1974 and changed his name to Islam in 1975.

 

Childhood:

His father Clay Sr. painted signboards and billboards and his mother Odyssey Grady Clay was a housewife. If Clay Sr. was a Methodist but would have allowed his wife to baptize his children.

 

Beginning of boxing life:

One day in 1954, Ali's bicycle was stolen and he told the police officer (Martin) that he wanted to beat the thief. The officer (he’s the city’s boxing coach) tells him he needs to know how to fight for it.

The next day he started learning boxing from Martin. She taught him how to dance like a butterfly and sting like a bee. In 1960, he won an Olympic gold medal.

Ali's specialty was the height of 8'3 '. Relied on instinct to stop the opponent's beating.

He won his first professional fight on 29-10-1980. 1970-1983 He won 19 consecutive fights, including 15 knockouts. In 1983, he won a controversial 10-bout fight with Doug Jones.

 

First title fight:

He was then regarded as a rival to title-holder Sonny Liston, but no one expected him to win. Before the fight, he announced that he would dance like a butterfly and sting like a bee.

Liston was overconfident. But Ali's quickness saved him from Liston's punch. Because of his height he was able to punch him. Liston managed in the 4th round. At this time, he could not see properly because of the dust in Ali's eyes.

He was just blocking Liston. Ali recovered in the 6th round, and Liston conceded defeat in the 8th round, raising suspicions that the match was rigged. 

Cassius Clay is Mohammad Ali:

After winning the title, he quickly reached the top of fame. At this time he announced that he was a member of the 'Nation of Muslim' tribe. He was named Cassius X because he thought his title was indicative of slavery. Shortly afterwards, the chief of the tribe introduced him to the journalists as Mohammad Ali.

 

Refuses to go to war in Vietnam:

In 1974, he failed to enter the army because he failed the test. He passed in 1986. He refuses to go to war in Vietnam. He said the Qur'an does not support war.

He will not go to war without the command of Allah or the Prophet. He has no disputes with any Vietnamese, they have never called him black. He did not want to be known as Cassius Clay, so he could not take part in the 1968 war in America.

After his return match with Liston in 1985, he fought for the title nine times in 1986 against Jara Foley. Very few boxers have fought so many times in such a short time.

In one of the most difficult battles of his life, he won 12 rounds. Ali returned to the United States in 1966 to fight Cleveland Williams. It was one of his best matches in which he won 3 rounds.

In 1986, he joined Ernie Terrell in a ring in Houston. Terrell insulted him by calling him Clay before the match. Ali decided to give him the right punishment.

He made her bloody in this 15 round fight, many think that Ali did not finish the fight before on purpose. In 1966 he was banned for 3 years for not going to war. He was able to return to the fight in 1960 on the orders of the Supreme Court.

The best fight of the century:

In March 1971, Ali confronted Joe Frazier, known as the "best fighter of the century." This widely discussed battle was the battle of two greats which thrilled everyone. Joe Frazier won the game and Ali lost for the first time. In the return fight of 1984, however, he regained the title.

 

Rumble in the Jungle:

He got into a fight with George Foreman in October 1984, known as "Rumble in the Jungle". Ali's staunch supporters did not see the possibility of Ali.

Foreman and Norton fought hard against Ali and George defeated them in 2 rounds. Foreman won 38 of 40 fights in knockouts in 3 rounds. Ali wanted to take advantage of this.

Everyone thought he would fight swiftly, but he stayed away. He invited the foreman to attack. His intention was to make her tired. In the 7th round, he got his chance and knocked out the foreman.

Retirement:

However, he returned in 1970 to snatch the title from Larry Holmes. Larry was his disciple so everyone was interested in the fight. Ali lost after 11 rounds.

Later it was found out that there was a serious defect in the brain. His brain was leaking. He later retired in 1971 (56 wins, 5 knockouts, 5 defeats). He is the best boxer of all time.

 

Contribution:

In 1970, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. When asked if he blamed boxing for his illness, he said he wouldn't be so famous if he didn't. After retirement he has dedicated his life to the welfare of humanity. He is working tirelessly to establish world peace.
